We have finally had to concede that it’s now too hot to light the stove … Swapping a constantly boiling copper kettle for lunch in the sunshine on the foredeck is not such a bad deal.

A short walk along the towpath was rewarded with fields of buttercups.

Buttercups also line the water’s edge, even in the locks where they look surreal as the boat sinks down to a new “ground level”.

The locks look more picturesque at sunset and since we moored next to a lock, we were treated to a beautiful show.

Even more spectacular when the levels rose slightly, creating a waterfall for the next evening’s entertainment.

It’s incredible to think that this tranquil scene was once among England’s busiest commercial routes into London. We are hoping to reach London by late summer.
