Traditionally, maritime vessels would string a collection of international signal flags along their length in celebration of anniversaries…

We were the only boat so attired at Aylesbury Marina but it was fun to be festive … I’m not sure the King was aware though.

It was a welcome change to be on narrow gauge waters again as the locks fill more quickly and seem prettier after the broad locks on the Grand Union. The bridges are correspondingly tight and we lost a chimney top at least once. It’s on a string though, so easily retrieved.

We started to miss the wider canal as the reeds began to grow wilder and the rain continued to pour. The locks are old and in need of some TLC but generally easy to operate and we were welcomed into the marina by a small family of Aylesbury ducks.

The Aylesbury, Circus Field Marina offers free visitor mooring which is a great way to encourage boaters to explore this beautiful stretch of canal.
